The roof of the well house, which had not been in use for more than thirty years, caved in this year. The foundation is 12 feet wide and 16 feet long. Because the collapse left a hole that endangered people and animals, I put a flat roof over the structure. The structure is identified as “pump” (house) in Stamford plot plan 9864, filed on 12/7/76. I used 2" by 6" pressure-treated joists, placed vertically and spaced 24" apart, and connected them with perpendicular 2" by 6" joists over the concrete foundation, creating a solid grid. I screwed 3/8" pressure-treated plywood (4' by 8' sections) on top of the joists and applied two coats of exterior paint.
